SpaceX’s Elon Musk pledged to give a share in the company to every US child, the latest effort by AI titans to win over an increasingly skeptical public.

Musk’s offer follows Anthropic’s announcement that it would put at least 5% of its shares into a public-benefit fund, and reports that OpenAI discussed offering a similar stake to the US government.

All want to win over voters and politicians opposed to the AI infrastructure buildout and worried about the technology’s impacts on humanity.

“Each AI lab’s proposal is pleasingly characteristic,” Bloomberg’s Matt Levine noted: “OpenAI wants to work with the government, SpaceX is libertarian and individualistic and cost-conscious, and Anthropic wants to make the decisions about what is best for society.”
