Three years since the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel, the path toward peace in the resulting Gaza war remains murky.
President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace unveiled a $2.45 billion Gaza recovery plan at a recent meeting, but the endeavor’s eventual goals — getting Hamas to disarm and Israel to withdraw, and then rebuilding Gaza — remain far out of reach.
The Gaza war is one of multiple conflicts vexing the Trump administration, which has also struggled to wind down the Iran war and Russia’s assault on Ukraine.
The Oct. 7 attacks “were a horrific atrocity, and we remember all the victims who were killed at the hands of Hamas,” White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales said. “Three years later, there is a ceasefire, all hostages are home, and President Trump remains committed to ensuring Hamas can never pose this kind of threat again while helping the people of Gaza start a new chapter free from the tyranny of Hamas.”
