US President Donald Trump held crisis talks over whether to institute a diesel export ban as fuel prices surge nationwide, the Financial Times reported, with one industry figure suggesting a ban was “getting pretty close to movement.”
Top Republicans have called on Trump to “stop the bleeding” as soaring prices rattle the party a month before the midterm elections, though some cabinet members, including the energy secretary, have argued against a ban. Diesel prices could remain elevated for a year, according to a new survey of oil and gas executives.
The White House said this week that Trump will campaign with an embattled Republican senator in Alaska, where gas prices have topped $10 per gallon and, in remote communities, approached $30 a gallon.
