Political and business leaders poured cold water on calls from AI giants to slow the pace of technological development, while the prospects of a US-China detente looked slim. US President Donald Trump called Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during a live panel discussion to argue that worries about AI’s impact were “all a hoax.” A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman, meanwhile, dismissed remarks by frontier AI labs’ bosses over the weekend as “fear-mongering.”

The Wall Street Journal noted dryly that talk of AI’s “potential role in destroying humanity hurt some stocks and helped others.” Americans are growing worried, however: Gallup reported that the proportion of US workers who fear technology taking their jobs rose 7 percentage points in the past year.
