Growing calls for AI regulation looked set to dominate the days ahead as Washington took up the issue and frontier labs mulled proposing their own watchdog. The US House of Representatives will this week take up a bill overseeing the data center buildout, while Democratic lawmakers are circulating their own letter calling on the White House to lead a global effort to set AI rules ahead of an upcoming summit with China’s leader.
Trump, for his part, has downplayed risks from the technology, and there is little consensus in Congress for whether — and how — to regulate AI. Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI have, meanwhile, been holding talks for months on forming an industry body to set safety standards, The Information reported.
