European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde reportedly told the World Economic Forum board she was “ready to serve” as the organization behind the annual gathering of business and political leaders in Davos grapples with questions over succession.
Lagarde has been seen as the frontrunner for the role since WEF’s longtime chair departed under a cloud. According to the Swiss outlet NZZ am Sonntag, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink — who is credited with bringing Davos back into relevance — is expected to chair next year’s summit but will step back after the event. The timing of any Lagarde elevation is tricky, however: Her term as ECB president runs until Oct. 2027.
