The powerful sister of North Korea’s dictator denied that US President Donald Trump had been in touch with Pyongyang about holding talks this year.

North Korea was “uninterested” in Trump’s scale down of military drills with South Korea — which the US leader framed as an olive branch — she added.

Trump’s overtures to the repressive regime, which Seoul says has 120 nuclear warheads and has stepped up its military threats in the region, have unnerved Washington’s Asia-Pacific allies, several of which are already the target of US tariffs. Some fear Trump’s moves could push South Korea closer to China’s sphere of influence; Beijing’s foreign minister arrived in Seoul yesterday.
