US President Donald Trump signed an executive order limiting childhood vaccines, saying, without scientific backing, that inoculations cause autism.
The order also calls for splitting the combined measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine into separate shots, which would require years of investment.
Trump has long been skeptical of vaccines — in 2014 he said “tiny children are not horses” and should not have combination jabs — and his Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is similarly critical.
But the administration’s position varies: Kennedy promoted the MMR shot last week as the largest US measles outbreak in 35 years grows. Scientists say there is no evidence jabs cause autism: Rising diagnoses are more likely down to changing diagnostic criteria than increased prevalence.
