Longtime OpenAI executive Brad Lightcap announced his exit Tuesday, continuing a months-long leadership exodus from the company ahead of its planned IPO.
OpenAI’s head of ethics also recently left, following the head of safety systems and the former mission alignment chief.
The departures come as OpenAI battles a perception that it’s lost ground to rival Anthropic, which is thought to be leading in valuation and enterprise adoption, even as OpenAI’s ChatGPT still boasts more users.
OpenAI could also benefit from backlash brewing in Silicon Valley against Anthropic, whose executives have criticized open-weight AI models that are popular among developers, The Wall Street Journal wrote.
