Chinese chip giant CXMT downplayed the impact of US restrictions in its latest investor filings, as the company looks to ramp up its overseas business.

Apple is testing memory chips from the newly public company, The Wall Street Journal reported, as it grapples with an AI-induced memory shortage.

The iPhone maker is reportedly seeking the White House’s approval to use CXMT chips, but the politics could prove insurmountable: The Chinese chip maker in June was designated by Washington as having ties to the Chinese military — a warning sign to potential partners. But that “will not have a material adverse effect,” the company wrote in its late July prospectus. CXMT, at least for now, is not on the US trade blacklist.
